On the 82nd anniversary of Kristallnacht, we remember the night that marked the beginning of the Holocaust. We vow that the Jewish people will never again be defenseless against the forces that seek our destruction.
Tonight, we are reminded of the insufferable price of hatred, and the destructive power of human evil. And in the face of forces who wish us harm, we stand firm, strong, and secure in our own country, stating clearly: Never Again.
While the ovens of the Nazi crematoria have long been extinguished, the flames that consumed Jewish houses of worship, homes and businesses on Kristallnacht burn to this day; flames of hatred and racism. My hope and prayer is that mankind will learn from history, lest we repeat it. Am Yisrael Chai.
As we mark the anniversary of Kristallnacht, I commend March of the Living for uniting us with their rallying cry, 'let there be light'. That night of broken glass led to humanity's darkest moment. Today we unite against antisemitism, hatred and intolerance. We will never let the light go out.
As the world continues to face the scourge of hatred, I join in solidarity with those standing with the March of the Living to combat this evil and light the way to a brighter future. To commemorate Kristallnacht, I pledge to do so in the name of all victims of antisemitism and all forms of racism.
It is 82 years since that dark night which signaled the start of the Holocaust. 82 years later and antisemitism continues. March of the Living says to the whole world, enough of hatred and antisemitism! We will continue to carry the torch of remembrance for the Holocaust. Am Yisrael Chai.
I was 10 years old on Kristallnacht. I heard the breaking of glass of the Jewish clothing store beneath my apartment.. My uncle ran to save the Sefer Torah. What can happen then, can happen again. We need to remain vigilant and ensure that our democracy is based on respect.
When I was 7, SS officers burst into our home. They tore the pages out of my grandfather’s Gemarah, ripped his Talit and shredded his Sefer Torah. Later we learned that the synagogue which my grandfather had established had been burned to the ground. I don't think the pain will ever leave me.
I PLEDGE TO UNITE THE WORLD BY SHINING LIGHT OVER THE DARKNESS OF HATE.
As a child survivor I have the obligation to make sure that the Light will never go out again.
Kristallnacht was really the beginning of the end. The time after Kristallnacht was filled with fear and with indignity. I lived through this horror and my life was changed forever. Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with you
I am a Holocaust Survivor, was born on Dec. 29, 1944 in the Budapest, Hungary Ghetto during a bombing raid. My last name was Wolf but it was changed to a generic last name so we would not be singled out in case there was another Holocaust. Of course I will light the lights. I am proud to be a Jew.
Kristallnacht should continue to act today as a warning sign against anti-Semitism, and set a reminder for all countries of their responsibility for the safety of all their citizens, regardless of religion, race or gender.
82 years after Kristallnacht, the shattered glass may be gone from the streets, but Antisemitism still rears its ugly head. It is our duty to never forget our brothers and sisters. And it is our mission to keep shedding light on the atrocities of the past in order to educate for a brighter future.
The sparks of Kristallnacht led the way to the destruction of European Jewry. The warning signs of that night were ignored by the world. We must never allow this to happen again. With a resurgence of antisemitism, I will do everything necessary to fight hatred.
The Israeli Embassy in Moscow is keeping the light on in the fight against anti-Semitism, together with our friends in Russia
On that night of the pogrom, the lives of thousands of people were broken into small pieces like shattered crystal. Thousands of Jews endured humiliation, abuse, pain, because of their descent and religion. Tonight, these broken crystals are forged again by our memory
Let us remember this date and of what happened then. Let us remember how many Jewish lives were broken and ended during the Shoah. Our mutual responsibility is to recover from losses, to build up bridges between communities as well as with other denominations. Always remember and never forget.
‘Kristallnacht’ marked a critical moment in the chain of events that led to the Holocaust. We send a message of unity and hope from the Israeli Consulate to the Midwest, in the shared battle against anti-Semitism, racism and hatred. We invite everyone to add their voice: Let there be light!
The Kristallnacht was the beginning of the Great Jewish Catastrophe. People,States and Governments should understand that always the early symptoms show the dangerous disease. The Kristallnacht was the early and serious symptoms of the Nazi crazy ideology that lead 6 million European Jews to death.
It s 82 years since Kristallnacht, that dark night which signalled the start of the Holocaust. In 2020 we still witness world-wide acts and displays of anti- Semitism and racism. I join in solidarity with those standing with March of the Living to combat anti-Semitism and hatred.
I bow in deep respect for the victims of the Shoah. I pursue a policy of zero tolerance towards all forms of antisemitism and racism. Our Holocaust Education Institute supports teachers and students in their engagement with social exclusion. The teaching of respect and recognition of diversity are non-negotiable elements of an education for democracy.
As we commemorate Kristallnacht, a historical event that led to the Holocaust, let us all recognise and stand against Antisemitism, racism and hatred that still sadly transpires in the year 2020.
I PLEDGE TO UNITE THE WORLD BY SHINING LIGHT OVER THE DARKNESS OF HATE.
"Kristallnacht marked a turning point in history: from culturally based anti-Semitism to state-sanctioned genocide. Commemorating that dark day in human history is particularly significant today, as violence has been rising again. It is imperative that such darkness be refuted by light.
My family and I will leave our lights on to commemorate the atrocities that occurred on Kristallnacht, as German authorities stood idly by, and as a signal that we will cast light wherever antisemitism exists, and we will not remain silent.
I PLEDGE TO UNITE THE WORLD BY SHINING LIGHT OVER THE DARKNESS OF HATE.
On behalf of the Jewish Women of Australia, I pledge to work with all those who seek light, to shine the torch of justice on hatred and oppression wherever it is located.
In a world of ungliness, we must be a source of beauty, in a world of hatred, we must bring love, in a world of darkness, we must be light. Adlai Stevenson once said of Eleanor Roosevelt, rather than curse the darkness, she lit a candle. Let us be that candle, bring that light.
Kristallnacht is an opportunity for memory & reminder of the imperative to ensure consistent application of universal human rights. To ensure the prospective promise of Never Again, we must adopt & implement the Ihra definition to address double standards that enable a culture of impunity.
Anti-Semitism and racism threaten our society as a whole, they endanger our values and democracy. Together we want to send a signal against the increase in anti-Semitism and hate speech worldwide. We want to advocate that discrimination and intolerance are outlawed in our society.
This year, there’s more light in the Middle East: the light of peace. As we mark Kristallnacht, synagogues in the UAE are opening with prayer sounds. We will not forget the 6 million Jews perished. The welcoming embrace that we feel is proof that we can embrace one another, with respect and support.
As we remember Kristallnacht, let us renew our commitment to stand against antisemitism, antiZionism and Holocaust Denial.
The anniversary of Kristallnacht always reminds me of the words of Yehuda Bauer: “Thou shall not be a perpetrator; thou shall not be a victim; and thou shall never, but never, be a bystander.” In the struggle against hatred, there is no place for neutrality.
Kristallnacht was a turning point in one of the darkest chapters of history. It must serve as a lesson to the world of the dangers of allowing hatred, racism and prejudice to grow and fester. We must re-commit to building a future defined not by hatred, but by hope, unity and love.
As the son of Holocaust survivors, I am proud to join this important initiative, and shine a light on Dubai. We are all together in the prayer for peace and tolerance to all faiths, as we experience here in the UAE. It is possible! But only if we commit to uniting against the darkness of hate
Let us remember our dear brethrens, the innocent ones, elderly, children, men and women, who lost their lives during the Shoah across Europe. We must be recovered and strengthen ourselves. We must bring light into our lives. We shall never forget but always remember.
After Kristallnacht there were no more excuses. After Kristallnacht the nature of the Nazis was plain for all the world to see. After Kristallnacht the world paid the price for looking away.
The hatred of Jews that led to the Holocaust, and the hatred of others because of their faith or race, is not a thing of the past. We must stand against this hatred. We must add more goodness and more godliness into the world until evil has no place in it.
